The execute / write command shall only be used when AT+CSMS parameter <service> equals 1 (= phase
2+) and appropriate URC has been issued by the module; i.e.:

The write / execute command confirms successful receipt of a new message (SMS-
DELIVER or SMS-STATUS-REPORT) routed directly to the TE. If ME does not receive
acknowledgment within required time (network time-out), ME sends RP-ERROR to the
network. TA shall automatically disable routing to TE by setting both <mt> and <ds>
values of AT+CNMI to zero.
Parameter required only for PDU mode.
Command operates similarly as in text mode.
