Since the triacs automatically turn themselves off at each zero crossing, power can be
applied just after a zero crossing for full power to the other device, or most of the way
between zero crossings for minimum power to the other device, or anywhere across the
wave phase.

The zero-crossover interrupt circuit on
the PowerCore module, shown below in
Figure B-7, allows the turning on of the
triac output to be synchronized with the
AC waveform. An interrupt is sent to the
microprocessor when the AC voltage
crosses zero—this allows the software to
respond to the event. The triac output is
turned off automatically at the next
crossover after the gate is disabled.
