Main Oscillator: Spurious Malfunction of Main Oscillator
Backup Overconsumption during AHB Masters activity
Refer to
The main oscillator can exhibit spurious malfunction as exhibited by the duty-cycle not perform-
ing according to specification, missing main clock periods, or in the worst case, no main clock at
all. The behavior does not alter over time. A device fully tested over the operating range (includ-
ing power supply and temperature) in an application without exhibiting any malfunction will
continue to function according to specifications.
Placing a series resistor of 470 Ω between XOUT and the crystal will fix the issue.
The additional series resistor will not alter the device specification as documented in the
datasheet, including the startup time and power consumption.
Conditions:
During AHB Masters activity (LCD DMA, USB Host DMA, etc.) the backup current can rise up to
12 µA @ 25° C.

when the main power supply is off. In active mode, the clocks of unused peripherals should be
disabled through the Power Management Controller to save power.
