Most Woodhead plugs, connectors, and receptacles are standard NEMA configurations. As such, standard terminal identification
is used to incorporate these devices in the wiring system.

Electrical Rating Change on Non-NEMA D e v i c e s
Several years ago, Underwriters Laboratories was approached by a manufacturer with a request to list some non-NEMA configura-
tion wiring devices – Woodhead's 2608, 2609, 2808 and 2809 configurations – in particular. U.L. agreed to list them only if they
were marked for a single voltage current.
Because of the variety of applications, U.L. proceeded to take a survey on the different uses field. They determined that the majority
are used in non-grounding applications. The following information was established:
Since Woodhead decided to mark the non-NEMA plugs and connectors single voltage and current rating, we have received many
inquiries as to whether these devices still suitable at their old ratings.
The rating change was a “paperwork” change only. Although they now have a single rating, devices are certainly functional and
can be used within the limitations of the old ratings.
These configurations are for replacement use only in existing facilities. Use of these devices under “premise control” where the
user determines at what voltage these devices are to be within the building.
We changed our ratings when it was clear that the majority of other manufacturers were changing theirs, and having a different
rating than everyone else would only add to the confusion.
