6. CONFIGURATION REGISTER ACCESS PROTOCOL
The W83627UHG uses Super I/O protocol to access configuration registers to set up different types of
configurations. The W83627UHG has totally fifteen Logical Devices (from Logical Device 0 to Logical
Device F with the exception of Logical Device 4 for backward compatibility) corresponding to fifteen
individual functions: FDC (Logical Device 0), Parallel Port (Logical Device 1), UARTA (Logical Device
2), UARTB (Logical Device 3), Keyboard Controller (Logical Device 5), UARTC (Logical Device 6),
GPIO3, 4 (Logical Device 7), WDTO# & PLED and GPIO5, 6 (Logical Device 8), GPIO1, 2 and
SUSLED (Logical Device 9), ACPI (Logical Device A), Hardware Monitor (Logical Device B), PECI &
SST (Logical Device C), UARTD (Logical Device D), UARTE(Logical Device E), and UARTF (Logical
Device F). Each Logical Device has its own configuration registers (above CR30). The host can
access those registers by writing an appropriate Logical Device Number into the Logical Device select
register at CR7.
