Testing
The Phase Locked Loop Back EMF algorithm is critical to a smooth startup and operation. Precise control of
the PWM is required to create constant waveforms to the motor, resulting in the quiet operation of the motor.

To verify the fast shutdown capability during an overcurrent event, the application was set up with an
oscilloscope tied to the PWM output and the current sense resistor. The load was then connected to the BLDC
Motor Control development kit and set up to gradually increase to an overcurrent state. The resulting
oscilloscope-generated waveforms representing this sequence of events are shown in
Figure 8
on page 14.
