In a two-hand-control/trip system
that incorporates STB Touch Buttons
as the actuation devices and
functions as a safeguard, the anti-
tiedown and simultaneity
monitoring functions should not be
performed by a non-safety-related
device (e.g., a PLC or PC). Per
OSHA 29CFR1910.211(d)(62), the
“safety system must...operate
together as a unit, such that a
single failure or single operating
error will not cause injury to
personnel due to point-of-operation
hazards.”

determine the requirements of a
two-hand-control/trip system when
used for safeguarding. See page 2
