The MAX8731A includes all of the functions necessary
to charge a smart battery. The EV kit is capable of
charging with a maximum current of 8.064A and a max-
imum voltage of 19.2V. For more information on the
operation of the MAX8731A, refer to the Detailed
Description section of the MAX8731A IC data sheet.
The MAX8731A EV kit is capable of charging two smart
batteries consecutively. Before connecting a battery, turn

Detailed Description
of Hardware
off power to the EV kit. To use charger A, set jumper JU1
to position 1-2 and connect the battery to BATT+_A,
BATT-_A, THM_A, SCL, and SDA. To use charger B, set
jumper JU1 to position 2-3 and connect the battery to
BATT+_B, BATT-_B, THM_B, SCL, and SDA.
To evaluate the MAX8731A with an input voltage
greater than 25V (up to 28V), capacitors C1, C11, C13,
and C20 must be replaced with higher voltage-rating
parts.
