The MCP6281/2/3/4/5 family of op amps is manufac-
tured using Microchip's state of the art CMOS process.
This family is specifically designed for low-cost, low-
power and general-purpose applications. The low sup-
ply voltage, low quiescent current and wide bandwidth
makes the MCP6281/2/3/4/5 ideal for battery-powered
applications.
3.1
The MCP6281/2/3/4/5 op amp is designed to prevent
phase reversal when the input pins exceed the supply
voltages. Figure 3-1 shows the input voltage exceeding
the supply voltage without any phase reversal.
FIGURE 3-1:
No Phase Reversal.
The input stage of the MCP6281/2/3/4/5 op amp uses
two differential input stages in parallel. One operates at

Input voltages that exceed the input voltage range

beyond ±2 mA can cause reliability problems.
Applications that exceed this rating must be externally
limited with a resistor, as shown in Figure 3-2.

The MCP6283 and MCP6285 are single and dual op
amps with chip select (CS), respectively. When CS is
pulled high, the supply current drops to 0.7 µA (typ) and
flows through the CS pin to V
the amplifier output is put into a high-impedance state.
By pulling CS low, the amplifier is enabled. If the CS pin
is left floating, the amplifier may not operate properly.
Figure 3-3 shows the output voltage and supply current
response to a CS pulse.
