If hardware handshake is not required, the data connections only need
be made. This reduces the cable requirements to 4 wires.
Select either DTE or DCE as appropriate on each unit. Connections to
printers, terminals and PCs usually requires DCE setting. Connections
to modems, line drivers and some large computer ports require the DTE
setting.
The GW232 line driver is a full duplex line driver which communicates RS232C signals. The unit
operate up to 2Km over economical twisted pair cabling. At lower signalling speeds (e.g. up to 2400
bits/sec) it may be possible to communicate further than 2Km, depending upon the quality of the link
cable and the local environment.
The unit can be in two modes: Data Only Mode requires just two twisted pairs in the link cable, Data
and Handshake Mode requires four twisted pairs. Connection of the link cable is simple and a wiring
guide is printed on the units. All RS422 signals are internally terminated, and any unused lines may
be left unconnected. The GW232, DTE/DCE switch allows the GW232 to be configured to match most
asynchronous RS232 equipment, including terminals, PCs, printers, plotters etc., without having to
make special cross-over wiring configurations in your RS232 cables. All unit is supplied complete
with a small external power transformer and carry a light indicating when power is available.The
GW232 is available in two versions; the GW232M has a male RS232 connector and the GW232F has
a female RS232 connector.
