6.0 Software interface
The host serial I/O port of the receiver’s serial data interface supports full duplex communication between the receiver and the
user. The default serial modes are as follows:
Port A: NMEA, 9600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit
Port B: SiRF Binary, 38 400 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit
6.1 NMEA output messages
NMEA is a standard protocol used by GPS receivers to transmit data. Output NMEA (0183 v3.0) messages for the Jupiter
listed in Table 13 complete description of each NMEA message is contained in the Navman NMEA reference manual.
6.2 SiRF Binary
SiRF Binary is the proprietary interface protocol of SiRF. It allows the Jupiter 3 a greater level of configurability and a more
standardised message set than NMEA. A complete description of each binary message is contained in the SiRF Binary Protocol
reference manual.
